Legal Requirements
Below is a detailed explanation of the window tinting Law for the State of Georgia. Please be aware that there are a lot of police officers in the state that do not know exactly what the
requirement is. I get questions from customers on a fairly regular basis about this topic, and many of them have even been given the incorrect information on the law from officers from every department under the sun. I have even asked some police officers myself to see if they know the ruling. Sometimes they know it, sometimes they do not. In Georgia many departments are carrying around a light meter that measures the transmison of light through a roll up window. I will break the Law down for vehicles by specific group:
Passenger Cars
This group includes any 2 door or 4 door car that is not an SUV, Truck, Van or Limosine. The
law says that cars in this group can have window tinting applied to all the windows except the front windshield, and can be no darker than 32% after the film is applied. The windshield can have a strip across the top of the glass , but it is not supposed to go past the factory ASI mark that is etched into the glass.
Suv | Truck | Van | Limosine
The vehicles in this category can have window tinting of any darkness behind the front 2 roll up windows. Only the driver and passenger front windows are restricted and can be no darker than 32% after the film is applied. The same rule applies to these vehicles concerning the strip across the front windshield.
